From historic restorations to new systems incorporating the latest techniques and technologies, the 42 projects in consideration for top honors at the Feb. 28 Roofing Contractors Association of Hawaii (RCAH) Top Roofing Awards represent an inspiring cross-section of the industry’s advancement.
“The industry really stepped up this year to put forth likely the best and most diverse group of nominations that we have had,” says Tim Lyons, RCAH executive director. “They are truly indicative of the multitalented group that exists in the roofing industry.”
In a joint email statement, RCAH President Hina Schipa Chow of Buck Roofing and Awards Committee Chairman Scott Ai of Beachside Roofing note that although local construction slowed overall in 2025, roofing work remained dynamic with single-family homes, multifamily projects and high-rises. Manufacturers and distributors found ways to minimize pricing disruptions amid escalating tariffs, ensuring progress for projects in the pipeline.
Chow and Ai say roofing companies continue to navigate a significant labor shortage. They are heartened, however, by a growing interest in the trades.
“Roofing is demanding work, and creating a more positive, sustainable career path will be essential to building strong, reliable crews for the future,” say Chow and Ai.
Lyons says this year’s crop of project entries — highlighted in the pages ahead — spurs optimism for a thriving industry.
“We are extremely proud of our nominees who have once again demonstrated their wide spectrum of abilities and talent,” he says.
Editor’s Note: Trade Media Hui publishes Building Industry Hawai‘i and is a sponsor of the RCAH Top Roofing Awards. Amanda Canada, Trade Media Hui publisher, is among the judges for this year’s awards. Winners will be announced at the RCAH Top Roofing Awards event at Ko‘olau Ballrooms on Feb. 28.
