The Construction Industry of Maui raised more than $70,000 for Maui County high school construction vocational programs during an inaugural golf tournament on Sept. 30. The sold-out event was held at The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course and funds raised will assist students pursuing a trade career to help rebuild Maui following the devastating wildfires on the island in August.

“Proceeds from this event allow Maui high school students the opportunity to gain skills to pursue a career in construction, which will allow them to help rebuild Maui after the devastating wildfires,” says Kevin Keller, of Cohen Development Group Maui Inc. “We have a continual decline of people entering the trades and we need these people more than ever. By completing a one- or two-year curriculum, graduates will be exposed to the benefits of our industry and gain the skills necessary to quickly enter the workforce and begin the rebuilding process on Maui.”

The format for the tournament, which was sponsored by Pace Supply Corp., was a four-person best ball scramble with a two-putt maximum on each hole. Players were also invited to participate in promotions including a “Hole-in-One Harley Davidson Giveaway,” “Closest to the Pin,” “Longest Drive” (men and women) and “Best-Dressed Team.”

More than 50 sponsors helped with the event, including Discovery Builders Maui LLC, HPM Building Supplies, Alpha Inc., Nordic PCL Construction Inc., Moss & Associates LLC, Stone Source Hawaii LLC, S&F Land Co.
