he companies and projects reflected within this year’s list of Building Industry Hawaii’s Top 10 Roofers run the gamut from Kaua‘i to Hawai‘i island, from beachside homes to luxury resorts, and encompass projects in both the public and private sectors.

To compile Hawai‘i’s Top 10 Roofers 2024 list, Building Industry Hawaii distributed online surveys to over 200 roofing companies in the state. Participation in this survey was voluntary; companies who took part submitted responses electronically, with all information collected and sorted by magazine staff.

Participants are ranked by annual revenue, with the company reporting the highest earnings for 2023 receiving the No. 1 spot on the list.

One common theme we’ve discovered is the continued growth of Hawai‘i’s roofing industry. 2023’s Top 10 list showed a combined total revenue of $148.2 million among all companies listed.

In 2024, that number jumps to $168.3 million — a 13.6 percent increase — with several companies repeating on our list and showing impressive growth over 2023.

A residential specialist since its start in 1980, the company felt honored in 2024 to see “children of our original customers from the ‘80s and ‘90s return to us for their roofing and painting needs,” says Davelyn Leong Martin, company president.

The family-owned business has consistently achieved widespread recognition since 2008, and in 2024 was named No.1 “Best of the Best Roofers” in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser and was ranked among the top three for painting, Martin says.

Heading into 2025, “we’ve seen an increasing demand for abatement and multi-trade coordination,” she reports. “Many of our projects initially began as roofing jobs but evolved to include abatement, carpentry, painting and gutter work — allowing us to provide comprehensive solutions and seamless project management for our clients.”

Founded in 2002, the roofer’s 2024 completed projects include Hilton Hawaiian Village – Tapa Tower, Wheeler Army Airfield, Lau Hala Shops, Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom, Pearl Country Club Clubhouse, Ambassador Restaurant, Central Self Storage, Sheraton Maui, Tripler Army Medical Center and the VA E-Wing.

Of these, Lau Hala Shops was “a challenging and unique project,” Pelka says.

During demolition, the roof’s degraded metal decking caused potential leaks as well as interior safety issues. “A unique scaffolding set-up was incorporated to allow the businesses to continue operating safely and unimpeded during the re-roofing process,” he says.

New 2024 Honolulu Roofing projects include Marriott Waikoloa, Honolulu Community College, Mililani High School Girls Athletic Facilities, Hale Koa Ilima Tower, Kanoelani Elementary School, Waimano Home Road, Zelinsky Warehouse and Waipahu High School Girls Locker Room.

The Fairmont Orchid resort, Board of Water Supply, Pālolo Valley Homes, Pacific Training Center — these big projects were completed by Pacific Islands Group LLC in 2024, fueling $7.6 million in revenue and the company’s No. 6 ranking among Hawai‘i’s Top Roofers.

“Operating on all six islands, logistical challenges of equipment, housing and manpower are always our biggest challenges,” says Danny E. Teffera, company president.

Founded in 2006, Pacific Islands Group performs 30 percent of its work in the public sector. In addition to standard roofing specialties, the company also offers deck coatings and below-grade services.

New 2024 projects include the Hawai‘i Convention Center, Wailea Beach Marriott and the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Landscape Building.

Ranked No. 5 among this year’s winning roofers, Certified Construction Inc. earned $9.5 million in 2024 revenue.

Founded in 1980, 41 percent of Certified Construction’s 2024 projects are in the public sector.

Certified’s 2024 completed projects include Puamana Condos AOAO; Ala Wai Golf Course Clubhouse; Lahainaluna Elementary School, Bldg. L; Hana Elementary School Walkways; Ha‘ikū Elementary School P8, P9, P10; and Kapi‘olani Community College Lama Library.

Nearly half — 45 percent — of Surface Shield’s 2024 projects are in the public sector, many of them for the Hawai‘i Department of Education.

Surface Shield’s completed 2024 projects include Ho‘onanea AOAO, Kalihi Elementary School F and I Reroof, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam B77, Webling Elementary School E Reroof, Wayfinder Waikiki, Kalihi Waena Elementary School H, New Life Church, Times Ko‘olau, Hocking Hale Affordable Housing, Radford High School Café, Castle High School Walkways Phase 2, Moanalua Middle School Café, Moanalua High School Pumphouse, Rycroft Terrace, First Assembly of God Church and Kauluwela Walkways.

Shon Gregory, company president, says the Ho‘onanea AOAO project’s challenges included the “logistics of working outer-island with limited equipment and facilities available due to post-wildfire [conditions] in Lāhainā.”

In 2024, the company also began a reroof at Stevenson Middle School A and several private residential and commercial projects.

Surface Shield was also honored last year with the RCAH 2023 People’s Choice Top Roofing Project of the Year Award for its work at UH Bilger Hall and the Bilger Addition.

With $16 million in 2024 revenue and a wide range of challenging projects, Tory’s Roofing & Waterproofing Inc. holds the No. 3 spot among this year’s Top Roofers.

Tory’s completed 2024 projects include work at the Timbers luxury resort; the Old Koga Theater; King Kekaulike High School Buildings H, D, T, I, K and Walkways; and on Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands.

Mike Tory, company vice president, says the Kwajalein project presented huge challenges. “Accessibility to the island is extremely limited, and our men needed to travel internationally to get to the project location,” he says. “Despite the extensive paperwork and coordination that needed to happen to complete this project, the job was completed successfully without any issues, on-time and on-budget.”

Tory’s also started many new projects in 2024 — Public Storage Koa Ridge, Hale Nani Nursing Rehab Center, Komohana Research, the Waikiki Beachcomber Showroom and the Outrigger Reef Hotel.

“2024 was a great year for TRW,” Tory says. “It was one of the highest-grossing years to date. … We are blessed to say that we had a great year and are looking forward to another one.”

Beachside Roofing LLC is No. 1 among Hawai‘i’s Top Roofers of 2025, earning $47.3 million in 2024 revenue and completing some of the state’s most high-profile 2024 roofing projects.

These include Victoria Place at Ward Village, Maui Bay Villas Phase 2, Maui Coast Hotel, Hōkūao, Hilton Waikoloa Ocean Tower Phase 1 & 2 Reroof and Romer House Waikīkī.

“Affordable housing is becoming a larger part of our business,” notes Scot Jimenez, the company’s president and CEO.

Beachside Roofing’s new 2024 projects reflect this strategy, with the School Street Senior Affordable Housing Phase 1A and Hale Mō‘ili‘ili joining Ward Village luxury towers Alia and Kalae, the Punahou Learning Academy, the Maui Airport Industrial Complex, UH Graduate Student Residences and the UH Student Success Center.

Beachside completed another big move in 2024 — the opening of its newly developed corporate office in Kapolei.
