Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 1260 (IBEW Local 1260), and current and retired employees of Hawaiian Electric together raised over $423,000 for United Way chapters on Hawai‘i island, Maui and O‘ahu. The funds were raised during workplace campaigns conducted last year.

$374,186.77 was raised by employees on O‘ahu and Maui for Aloha United Way to support its network of partner nonprofits on Maui and O‘ahu. Funds totaling $49,803.65 were raised by Hawai‘i island employees for the Hawai‘i Island United Way. Together, donated monies will go towards programs that support education, financial stability and health.

Fundraising activities included sales of a limited-edition cookbook, golf tournament, merchandise sales and an online pledge drive.

“In these uncertain and challenging times, it’s even more important that we band together to support these agencies which ensure funds and resources are distributed where they can do the most good,” said Michael DeCaprio, Hawaiian Electric vice president of Power Supply and the company’s workplace campaign executive sponsor, in a press release. “I’m proud of our employees for continuing to help make a meaningful impact in our community.
