‘Ohana Military Communities celebrated the first completed renovation of a home at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam’s Hokulani rental community with a key turnover and traditional Hawaiian blessing on Nov. 15.

Hunt Military Communities, which operates in Hawai‘i as ‘Ohana Military Communities, is the largest provider of military housing in the country and owns more than 7,000 units statewide.

The $29 million renovation project is part of OMC’s broader commitment to enhance military housing across Hawai‘i, with current projects totaling $73 million at JBPHH, Marine Corps Base Hawaii and the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kaua‘i.

“It is our privilege to welcome … our newest residents here in Hokulani and we hope they enjoy their new home,” Jeff Choi, vice president of operations at ‘Ohana Military Communities, said during the turnover ceremony. “We are proud to serve military families with exceptional housing, neighborhoods and community programs, not only here at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, but across the entire state.”

Work at Hokulani includes significant upgrades to all 190 homes, including new luxury vinyl plank flooring, LED lighting, air-conditioning updates and privacy fencing. Exterior improvements include roof replacements, fresh paint and restored landscaping.

Infrastructure investments include irrigation and sewer system updates aimed at enhancing energy efficiency and water conservation. A new destination playground and community landscaping are also underway to foster a sense of connection among residents.

Renovations are expected to be completed within three years and work will be conducted as units become unoccupied.

The Hokulani renovation team includes construction manager Hunt MH CM LLC; Unlimited Construction Services Inc.; Goodfellow Brothers LLC; Tabla Mechanical LLC; Advance Plumbing Systems Inc.; Society Contracting LLC; Protech Roofing LLC; Takano Nakamura Landscaping Inc.; and Best Vinyl Fence and Deck LLC.
