As the building industry gears up for Construction Safety Week, it’s critical for top managers to think beyond the bottom line (aka the endless pursuit of profits) and instead remember the foundation upon which our industry is built — hardworking employees who show up every day and get things done.
From May 6 through May 10, the focus shifts to the importance of jobsite safety and mental well-being, with more than 40 national and global construction firms working together to inspire everyone to be leaders in safety.
The Associated General Contractors of America offers a complete list of events and information for industry professionals online at hi.switchy.io/agc-sw-2024. In addition, OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction takes place the same week, spotlighting the importance of preventing falls on jobsites. Visit hi.switchy.io/osha-stand-down to learn more.
And then there’s the official website for Construction Safety Week, constructionsafetyweek.com, which is full of additional information and downloadable content you can use at your own jobsites.
PBX’S NEW PARTNERSHIP
Good news for fans of one of Hawai‘i’s leading trade shows for the construction and design industries. The CSI Honolulu Chapter recently announced it has entered into a new joint venture agreement with AIA Honolulu and GCA of Hawaii to produce PBX Hawai‘i on Oct. 2 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.
“It has long been the vision of CSI Honolulu to build an annual expo into an all-inclusive event that brings together professionals from across all AEC sectors, from architects and engineers to contractors,” said Tim Waite, chairman of the new joint venture, in a release. “We are excited to announce this new tri-party agreement that combines the strengths and talents of these three leading organizations.”
More than 200 exhibitor booths are expected this year, with 16 AIA-registered continuing education seminars scheduled to cover a broad range of topics, from design and practice to sustainability, planning and contracting.
