Coffee Break: Attitude of Gratitude

If you ever see me in person and ask how I’m doing, more often than not I’ll respond with the same three-word answer.

“I can’t complain.”

Since getting my start as Building Industry Hawaii editor in April 2023, I’ve had my share of ups and downs while navigating the learning curve of starting a new chapter in my professional career after more than two decades in daily print journalism.

Despite the challenges, I’m thankful to Trade Media Hui President Faith Freitas for the opportunity to lead a talented team of editors and
tell the stories of Hawai‘i’s construction industry.

I’m thankful for the warm welcome I received from both front-line employees and top-ranking executives after assuming my new role.

I’m also thankful for the insight I’ve gotten into the industry itself as Building Industry Hawaii remains on the forefront of the latest building trends and newest projects taking place statewide.

And it’s exciting to see my company take the lead with Hawai‘i Pacific University to help train the next generation of local construction
management professionals. You can read more about that new partnership on page 12 of this issue.

Finally, I’m thankful for everyone who takes the time to read this magazine every month. We’ll continue trying our best to keep you updated on this vital industry.

Aloha,
