Honolulu-based electrical contractor A-1 A-lectrician Inc. donated $20,000 in materials and labor towards the installation of lighting at Mililani District Park Skate Park. The addition of the eight 40-foot-tall lights will allow skaters and other park users to enjoy the facility at night.
The acquisition and installation of new lights was due to a collaborative effort initiated at one of Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi’s 2024 town hall meetings. It was later approved through City Council Resolution 24-200, which allowed for the acceptance of the gift from A-1 A-lectrician. The City & County of Honolulu’s departments of Parks and Recreation, Environmental Services, Facility Maintenance and Design and Construction all provided assistance during the project.
“When we initiated our town hall meetings last year and this year, one of our primary objectives was to directly engage our diverse communities and empower them through information and collaboration,” Blangiardi said in a press release. “The installation of these skate park lights is a perfect example of that goal in action. … Thanks to the dedication of A-1 A-Lectricians, their incredible staff, the Mililani community and our City teams, we turned this vision into reality.”
Prior to installation of the new lights, park users relied on car headlights and other makeshift light sources during twilight hours, according to Councilmember Val Aquino Okimoto.
“On behalf of my office and District 8, I would like to extend a heartfelt ‘mahalo’ to [Vice President] Ashley Ohia of A-1 A-Lectrician and her staff for their incredibly generous donation,” Okimoto said in the release. “Private-public partnerships like this are a tremendous resource for the community, as philanthropic support like this often makes a lasting impact in the community.”
