Construction is underway at the Blood Bank of Hawaii’s new $25.9 million headquarters in Kapolei. The project’s general contractor is Constructors Hawaii Inc., with Design Partners Incorporated’s Dean Takasato serving as lead architect and The Wilhelm Group as construction manager.
The 19,000-square-foot facility is poised to become a premier destination for rare blood storage and received a significant boost with a $1 million donation from The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation.
“The new facility will serve as a central hub for training and nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals,” said Blood Bank of Hawaii President and CEO Dr. Kim-Anh Nguyen in a Jan. 29 statement announcing the project’s groundbreaking. “By investing in education and hands-on experience for young talents, we are securing the present and a brighter and healthier tomorrow.”
This strategic move aims to fortify Hawaiʻi’s healthcare infrastructure by providing a reliable blood supply and advanced medical treatments for patients, along with supporting the needs of local Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander and other Asian communities.
The new headquarters, which will be known as the Clarence T.C. Ching Building, is expected to be completed and fully operational by late 2025.
