Hensel Phelps Executive Vice President Tom J. Diersbock was named the 2025 Outstanding Union Builder of the Year by the Hawai‘i Regional Council of Carpenters and Pacific Resource Partnership at PRP’s annual reception on Jan. 30.

“This recognition is a testament to the incredible teams I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years,” said Diersbock. “Building projects that enhance our communities while fostering opportunities for Hawai‘i’s workforce is deeply rewarding.”

Diersbock has nearly 30 years of experience, contributing to notable projects such as the Hilton Grand Islander in Waikīkī and the Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, which collectively generated over 500,000 hours of craft labor. Diersbock has also completed integral Department of Defense infrastructure projects, reinforcing Hawai‘i’s role in national security.

“From fostering strong relationships with unions and trade partners to mentoring the next generation of leaders, his dedication to advancing union construction has left an indelible mark on our communities,” said Ron Taketa, HRCC executive secretary-treasurer. “His work truly embodies the values of fairness, loyalty and integrity that we hold dear.”

Aside from professional pursuits, Diersbock serves as board member for Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawai‘i and regularly participates in workforce development initiatives.

“Tom is a true leader in every sense of the word,” said Nat Kinney, PRP executive director. “His collaborative approach, dedication to workforce development, and passion for building strong communities are what set him apart. We’re proud to honor his contributions to Hawai‘i and the construction industry.”
