First making its debut in 2008, the Hawaii Buildings, Facilities and Property Management Expo will again return to the Neal Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall this year on March 5 and March 6, providing an opportunity for industry professionals to connect and learn.
Despite a two-year pause for 2021 and 2022 due to the pandemic, the expo has managed to steadily regain its footing since its return in 2023, with vendor registrations having since ramped back up to pre-COVID levels.
In fact, early indicators point towards a record year for the expo.
“Normally, when I get to January 1, I’m usually about 70-percent booked,” says Expo Director Ken Kanter. “This year, right now, I’m 90 percent booked. And I have a wait list that I have to get to because it’s just been so busy.”
NOT JUST FOR MANAGERS
As the event’s name suggests, the expo is a gathering for managers of existing buildings, properties and facilities, while shining a spotlight on the vendors they rely on, the products they use and the services they didn’t even know they needed.
But it’s sort of an open secret that the expo can also prove to be a valuable resource for those who have a hand in those buildings, properties and facilities that are yet-to-exist. Whether it’s an architect, general contractor, engineer or another construction industry professional, the Hawaii Buildings, Facilities and Property Management Expo has something to offer.
Shows like Hawaii Buildings, Facilities and Property Management provide an opportunity for the construction industry to connect with vendors they may not normally cross paths with, who may be proficient in working with retrofits and remodeling projects, for example, with the expo fulfilling the objective of attracting “a market that otherwise a lot of these small companies can’t even get to — and the market itself may not be trying to find [these building professionals],” says Kanter.
A PLACE TO LEARN
The educational component remains an integral part of the Hawaii Buildings, Facilities and Property Management Expo, with the seminars ever a popular feature. Though specifics were unavailable at the time of this writing, Kanter could verify that some of the subject matter that would be covered include:
- Legislative update on issues affecting existing buildings.
- Implementation of AI software in building processes.
- Project management.
- Permitting.
In all, Kanter estimates that there will be approximately 22 sessions over the course of the two day event.
The Hawaii Buildings, Facilities and Property Management Expo will be held March 5 and March 6 at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with seminars beginning at 8 a.m. each day. Admission is free.
