Members of the Maui chapter of the American Institute of Architects in collaboration with the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement are providing free or reduced-cost home design plans to property owners affected by the August 2023 wildfires on the Valley Isle.
Hawaii Off Grid Architecture + Engineering has donated several pre-approved residential design plans that range in size from one- to six-bedroom dwellings. The comprehensive plans include architectural drawings with floor plans and elevations, and include sustainable, cost-saving features designed with the Maui community’s needs in mind.
Additionally, the plans come with all documents necessary for permitting and construction. Assistance with the permitting process can also be provided through the initiative.
“This effort demonstrates the spirit of unity and resilience as Maui rebuilds,” David Sellers, principal architect at Hawaii Off Grid and AIA Maui president, said in a release. “By coming together, we’re offering hope and support to those who need it most, ensuring survivors have the tools to rebuild their homes and futures. Choosing a pre-designed plan can save months of time. Currently we are seeing permits approved within weeks.”
