The Honolulu Chapter of the American Institute of Architects recognized the winners of its 66th annual Design Awards — Hawai‘i’s oldest design competition — during a gala celebration on July 26 at Café Julia Hawaii with more than 200 guests in attendance.

Design Awards nominations are submitted by local AIA Honolulu member-architects and showcase a wide range of projects. All entries can be viewed online at aiahonolulu.org.

One of the more popular awards every year is the People’s Choice Award, which allows the general public to vote for their favorite built project. More than 1,000 votes were cast online during a two-week period in June.

All other award winners were determined by a distinguished panel of jurors, including AIA member-architects and other design professionals. This year, three AIA Honolulu member architects served as jurors: Laura Ayers, principal at WhiteSpace Architects; Lorrin Matsunaga, founding partner of Urban Works; and Yasushi Ishida, a professor at the University of Hawai‘i School of Architecture. They were joined by jurors from Chicago and New York.

This year’s projects and architects recognized as Design Award winners and honorable mentions include:
