Three Maui high school students were each awarded scholarships valued at $25,000 by the Construction Industry of Maui. The recipients of the annual Bob Poulson scholarship are Carla Mae Agrade of Lāhainā, John Kaahui of Ha‘ikū and Emi Sado of Kahului.
The scholarships were awarded at a banquet on May 22 at the Fuego Argentinean Steakhouse at the Maui Lani Golf Course.
The scholarship is intended for students to pursue a degree in the construction and design industry, away from Maui, then return to serve the Maui community with the knowledge and skills they have acquired. To date, CIM has awarded over $350,000 in scholarships to 15 Maui high school students.
The scholarship honors the legacy of the late Bob Poulson, the founder of Arita Poulson General Contracting LLC and one of the original leaders of CIM. Poulson’s handiwork is found in over a thousand projects on Maui, including housing, schools, churches and healthcare facilities.
Through its scholarship program, CIM aims to offset the shortage of Hawai‘i’s qualified professionals and skilled craftspeople by helping to nurture and shape future industry leaders.
