Matson reports a total of $8.7 million in donations were made by the shipping company in 2023, up from $5.9 million in contributions in 2022.
The contributions were made in cash and in-kind services to 738 charities and nonprofit organizations in communities served by Matson, including Hawai‘i, Alaska, Guam and Micronesia. The tally includes cash contributions from Matson employees made via the company’s Matching Gift program.
Food security programs received the most assistance, with Matson donating $2.5 million in cash and in-kind support. Disaster preparedness/relief programs and environmental programs each received a total of $1.5 million and $1.3 million respectively, in cash and in-kind support.
In 2023, Matson was the sole corporate sponsor of the state Department of Education’s Beginning Teacher Summer Academies, contributing $25,000 to the program.
