The Construction Industry of Maui recently made a donation of $26,000 to Maui High School in support of the school’s construction vocational programs. The money is a portion of $50,500 raised in total during the organization’s first annual golf tournament in 2023. The Dunes Maui Lani Golf Course will host its second annual tournament in September.

Proceeds from last year’s tournament benefitted several Maui County schools. Baldwin High School, Hāna High School, King Kekaulike High School, Lahainaluna High School, Lāna‘i High School, Maui High School and Moloka‘i High School all received $3,500 each.

For its second round of funding, CIM partnered with the Hawai‘i  State Department of Education to select a school that completed a formal application process.

“Collectively as a board, we identified there is a continued need to support construction trade programs in Maui County,” said CIM Treasurer Jennifer Girard. “Educating our youth on the opportunities that are available within the construction industry is one of our many missions at CIM. We want to continue to raise awareness, which leads to retaining future talent here on Maui.”

The $26,000 donation will be used to help send two Maui High School students to the SkillsUSA competition in Atlanta this summer. SkillsUSA is a national workforce development organization that offers a number of programs and resources to help youth become career-ready professionals. SkillsUSA also conducts local, regional and state-level competitions that shine a spotlight on career and technical education.
