Bowers + Kubota (B+K) Consulting President Brian Bowers was presented with the 2023 Jerry Allen Courage in Leadership Award at the Zweig Group’s Elevate AEC Awards gala in Frisco, Tex., in September.
Zweig Group, which provides managing and marketing services for architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) firms nationwide, presents the annual award recognizing outstanding AEC leadership. Bowers has led B+K for 15 years as president since founding the company with Dexter Kubota in 1980.
A licensed professional engineer as well as a civil and certified construction manager, Bowers has overseen Hawai‘i projects at Kahului Airport, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and the H-1 Freeway’s Kapolei Interchange.

Kathleen Chu, a professional engineer, was promoted to vice president for design services.
Todd Niemann, a certified construction manager, was promoted to principal.
Mike Nishimura, Chad White and Lindsay Nakashima were named associates at the company. Nishimura is a professional engineer with more than 25 years of civil engineering experience. White has more than 30 years of construction management experience and helps oversee operations at B+K’s Maui office. Nakashima has more than 21 years of experience.
