Volunteers from Hitachi Rail Honolulu, alongside over 30 other local organizations, participated in the annual Girl Scouts Hawaii STEM Fest event in November. STEM Fest is a means to nurture interest in science, technology, engineering and math in Girl Scouts of all ages.

Over 230 scouts in grades K-12, representing troops from all over O‘ahu, were in attendance to participate in a day of events that included presentations and activities from Blue Planet Foundation, Honolulu Zoo Society, National Weather Service and O‘ahu Invasive Species Committee, among others.

Hitachi also provided individual STEM kits for each scout to take home. Kits contained educational, hands-on activities, including robotics and electrical engineering projects.

“The Girl Scouts were intelligent, inquisitive and eager to learn,” said Cara Mazzei, project communications director, Hitachi Rail Honolulu in a press release. “These young minds gave our engineers challenging and stimulating questions. Watching these girls eagerly unpack and assemble their STEM kits was truly inspiring. At Hitachi, we recognize the importance of inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals.”
